An Ugly American Abroad

Slept late because forgot to set the alarm, so I missed breakfast.  Had lunch in the buffet—an open face tuna sandwich and tabouleh salad.  Today’s port is St. Thomas, USVI.  Got off the boat and headed in the sky buckets to Paradise Point (some folks from the other ship were VERY unhappy with Princess, btw).  At the top are shops, a restaurant and a bar.  I had their famous Bushwacker (basically a pina colada with Bailey’s and some chocolate).

I ordered at the bar and started talking to a father/son next to me who have been cruising together since the son was five.  They were from Philadelphia and cruising on Princess—the other ship at this port).   Our convo was great—traffic, baseball, cheesesteaks, and cruising—very nice people.

I headed back to the dock for my excursion—an open air jeep that took us to four big viewpoints on the island:  Beacon Point (saw 2 big lizards—one was bearded dragon), ? Point, Drake Seat Point (you can see BVI from here), and Mountain Top—the home of the banana daiquiri. Had a nice talk with some of the other people on the excursion—beautiful views.

Very very hot…unless you are in the shade.  Back at ship, I went to my first solo meet up in the solo lounge—they were playing a Scattergories-type of game—I probably won’t be back.

Went to dinner at Taste (Waldorf salad, creamy potato soup, chicken Madeira w/ roasted red pepper risotto—good stuff), and met another solo woman who is from Peachtree City! Her name was Robin and we had a good convo about solo travel—she’s going on part of a world cruise soon!

After dinner, I went to the theatre to see a comedy show featuring the guy I saw last night and another guy who wasn’t very good.  Grabbed some tea and headed “home”—early day tomorrow.
